The World Cup is over, and whilst Qatar 2022 was very entertaining to the eye of any football fan, it is now time to shift focuses back to the Premier League.
Aston Villa had four players representing their respected countries at Qatar 2022.
A mixture of both disappointment and pride for Matty Cash, Jan Bednarek and Leander Dendoncker, however, pure ecstasy for Emi Martinez who won the World Cup with Argentina and took the Golden Glove home with him as well.
Martinez was exceptional for Argentina throughout the tournament. He proved vital for them in the quarter finals against Holland saving two vital penalties in the shootout in order to advance his country through to the semi final where they faced Croatia and where Martinez played exceptionally well again. However, the highlight of Emi's tournament was the final. Despite conceding three goals within the 120 minute game, Martinez made a clutch save to stop France from taking the lead in the last minute of extra time before saving a penalty in the shootout in order to win Argentina their third World Cup.
Unai Emery has said that he wants Emi Martinez to continue to rest and therefore he will not be back for our boxing day clash against Liverpool, however, when he does eventually play for us again, he will definitely be welcomed with a very good reception from the Villa faithful.
Before the World Cup break, Villa saw off Brighton by two goals to one at the AMEX continuing Unai Emery's 100% Premier League record as Villa boss. The Villa will be hoping to pick up from where they left off, however they face a tough challenge as Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool travel to B6 to face them.
It's gonna be Emery's first big challenge as Villa boss, and the atmosphere inside Villa Park is going to be incredible.
It's not gonna be one to miss...
