Aston Villa have emerged as front-runners for the Uruguayan striker, so here’s the latest on the free agent‘s future.
Aston Villa have informed Luis Suarez of the fact that they’re willing to offer him a wage of over 150,000£, and are willing to include many performance-related bonuses, and a ‘huge’ signing-on fee. Suarez is really ‘tempted’ to return to the Premier League, and appreciates the financials, but needs to be convinced about the project. Henceforth Steven Gerrard is working overtime to convince the player, and is in continuous contact with him to lure him to Villa Park. He’s the number one priority for the striker position. Agent fees are also being discussed, but there is a shared feeling amongst both parties that these details will not prove to be in issue.
The Birmingham-based club are proposing a potential one-year deal with an option to extend, but a two-year deal is preferred by the player‘s camp. Villa seem happy to compromise.
Ajax are also interested in the player, amongst other European clubs, but they are yet to start serious discussions with the player‘s entourage. It will be interesting to see if any club attempts to hijcak, as this deal progresses.
The striker would certainly bring a lot of experience and leadership to the dressing room, but there is a worry within the sport scientists at Aston Villa, that his age could hamper him in the most physically demanding league in the world, leading to a potential succession of injuries and niggles. It may be a risk, but surely it is a risk worth taking, as I’m sure many Villains would love to see Luis Suarez don the claret shirt, and perform in front of the rallying and reliable Holte End.
Suarez knows what Villa are offering financially, so after discussing the project proposed by Gerrard, he will consider the offer with his family and entourage. The next days are going to be climacteric, as it is a work in progress, so let’s see what Luis Suarez decides.
