After midweek defeat in the FA cup, to Manchester United, Steven Gerrard and the troops will look for revenge at Villa Park on Saturday...
A fairly disappointing loss on Monday night, saw Villa crashing out of the FA Cup in the Third Round (for the 6th year in a row). An early Scott Mctominay goal, was in-fact the only goal in the game to give United the win. Some criticism over the defending, as fans debate which defender should have been marking the Scottish international who in the end had a free-header in the box.
Oh! and of course we cant forget the classic 'controversial VAR decision'. A Danny Ings 'equaliser' was ruled out for a foul on Striker Edison Cavani in the build up to the goal by Jacob Ramsey. Cavani went to the ground after Ramsey stood on the pitch... He claimed he was impeded, and after 3 minutes of multiple VAR checks for multiple different things, they finally found a way to disallow the goal, from the foul. From a personal point of view... never a foul. I guess this photo explains it all...
Ahead of the game on Saturday, Aston Villa have been given a huge boost ahead of the fixture, with the arrival of Highly-rated Brazilian Phillipe Coutinho from Barcelona. The deal agreed is an 18-month Loan, with an option to buy of £40,000,000. Also, reports of French Left-back, Lucas Digne, have intensified with him set to join the Villans.
Villa come into this game off the back of two losses, whereas Man United come with a loss and a win. Although the results don't mean everything, as Villa have put in two fairly solid performances. An out of form Matt Targett will need to have a big game, as his future at Villa has come under jeopardy.
John Mcginn will miss this game for Villa after picking up 5 yellow cards altogether this season. Bertrand Traore and Trezeguet are both at AFCON for their represented countries Marvelous Nakamba is still out due to injury. Other than that, a fully fit side.
As for Man United, Goal-scorer Scott Mctominay is suspended due to a certain amount of yellow cards. Ronaldo should be available for selection after being rested due to a minor injury. Harry Maguire is also back after being rested.
Revenge for Villa as they look to show what they are made of. A real tactical battle here, as Man United continue to learn the new style of Ralf Rangnick, and the Villa Players look to continue learning the style of Steven Gerrard. Hopefully we see Villa look to attack from the off, and cause Manchester United real problems early on, getting an early goal in this game is vital, as proven on Monday. Gerrard had criticised the atmosphere at Old Trafford on Monday, so we should see a rocking Villa Park!
New Aston Villa signings, Phillipe Coutinho and French full-back Lucas Digne should be available to Steven Gerrard for the game, so hopefully they get off to a good start.
Transfer wise, Villa don't seem to be stopping, with Villa also interested in Brighton Midfielder Yves Bissouma, whether this will go through or not, is for another article.
We are set for an amazing game on the cards, and it is one to look out for, for a neutral.
It is going to be a very tough game, but personally I feel we will start strong and nick an early goal to win it... im saying 1-0.
