Newcastle United (H) - Match Preview

After disappointment of Wednesday night at the Etihad, and now 2 games without victory in the Premier League, Aston Villa will be looking to put that right on Saturday when they face former manager Steve Bruce, who is looking to end a poor run of his own.

Villa will look to go into this game versus Newcastle to get 3 points. But with very little time to prepare, will they come out of the game smiling? Villa have only recently returned to Bodymoor, after a COVID-19 outbreak forced them to close their training ground. This made Villa field a team mixed with U18’S and U23’S to play Champions Liverpool.

With Villa having to play a number of 5 games in the next 15 days, there has been a few debates whether to drop a few players to help save fitness. This seems to be a big game for Villa, as it is one of their games in hand, with a win that would send them up to 8th.

There is still a few injury concerns for Dean Smith, as Kortney Hause is an injury doubt after suffering a foot injury. Trezeguet is back in the squad after almost two months out with a hamstring/head injury.

Well after (as Dean Smith would say) a heroic effort against Man City, We think Villa should go out with the mentality to attack, but to make sure to be cautious of a counter attack. The 4-3-3 (or 4-2-3-1) formation seems to be working well for Aston Villa, so staying with that would be a good choice. Newcastle haven’t been very dangerous attacking wise this season, with The Magpies only scoring a total of 18 goals this season, but conceding a big amount of 30 goals Wesley, is still finding fitness after tearing his ACL in a 1-2 victory at Burnley on New Years Day 2020. Matthew Targett limped off at the game against Man City at the Ethiad. He will be ok and raring to play against Newcastle.

In one of Steve Bruce’s final acts as manager he said “Who are they gonna get that’s better than me?” The rest is history.

Our Predicted Lineup is below:

We think that one change will be made with Ramsey coming in for the suspended John McGinn.
