Free agent Wayne Hennessey has been linked with a move to Aston Villa.
The former Wolves keeper was recently released from Crystal Palace, and according to the Daily Mail, Aston Villa, Burnley and Chelsea are all in the race to get the 34-year-old’s signature.
Tom Heaton left Aston Villa for Manchester United not long ago, and Aston Villa are now left with three senior goalkeepers being Emiliano Martinez, Jed Steer and Lovre Kalinic. However, according to the Birmingham Mail, Kalinic will be on his way out of the club this summer if Aston Villa manage to find a replacement for Tom Heaton, and Wayne Hennessey could be exactly that.
This move could benefit Aston Villa massively as it would offer depth in the goalkeeper position meaning that if Emi Martinez picked up an injury, they would have both Jed Steer and Wayne Hennessey to fill in for him.
Depth is needed all over the pitch to help take Aston Villa to the next level, and if the club can keep adding players such as Ashley Young to the squad, not only will it offer healthy competition, it will offer experience in the dressing room and most important of all, cover if players pick up injuries or suspensions.
