This evening, Aston Villa confirmed the departure of eighteen year old talent Carney Chukwuemeka.
The club confirmed that themselves and Chelsea had reached an agreement for the permanent transfer of Carney Chukwuemeka.
The fee is believed to be around £15m plus add ons, and it goes without saying that this is another unbelievable bit of business done by Aston Villa.
It’s no doubt that Carney has ability and whilst it would have perhaps been nicer to have him in our side and have him develop into a world class midfielder at Aston Villa under Steven Gerrard, it cannot be denied that around £20m with add ons for an eighteen year old with less than twenty games under his wing is an unbelievable fee, especially when you look at the fact that he could have left for nothing at the end of his contract in 2023.
Chelsea will have got this deal done nice and early before he becomes available on a free transfer next summer and more clubs sniff after the wonderkid. Smart business considering their current starting midfielders such as Kante and Jorginho are all aging and will need to be replaced sooner rather than later. The price tag a bit hefty, however that is testament to Christian Purslow’s fantastic negotiation skills.
Another transfer saga is over, and now Aston Villa’s focus can shift from the future of the inexperienced eighteen year old that is Carney Chukwuemeka, and we can focus on our other promising academy players who are coming through. It’s a great time to be a Villa fan as things are definitely looking up for the club.
